Greetings from the President
I am pleased to take up the President of the Japan Elbow Society position this year. The society began its history in 1989 with the 1st Annual Meeting of the Japan Elbow Association under the leadership of President Tatsuya Tajima. It became the "Japan Elbow Society" in 2004, with Professor Muneaki Abe as the first president. In April 2021, the society took a new step forward as the "Japan Elbow Society" under the leadership of former President Katsunori Inagaki, intending to incorporate the society. Society is gradually gaining recognition internationally as the only society in the world specializing in the elbow joint, and we are now at a stage where the true value of society will be increasingly tested. With the understanding and cooperation of our members, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association, and other related societies, I am determined to do my utmost to contribute to the further growth of our society.
The momentum of COVID-19 seems to have subsided, and face-to-face meetings, conferences, academic meetings, and so on are beginning to return. The activities of our society, which were restricted because of the Corona disaster, should be gradually restored. We will focus on educating and training young people by resuming the cadaver workshop to foster "elbow surgeons" and organizing workshops on advanced surgical techniques, such as artificial joints and arthroscopy. In addition to the importance of early detection and treatment of elbow disorders such as "baseball elbow" during the growth period, "prevention" is essential to protect children in this era of declining birthrates, and we believe that educational activities and the dissemination of medical checkups are the mission of this society. As the only society specializing in elbow joints, we believe that our activities and information dissemination, both domestically and internationally, will lead to the development of our society. To this end, the guidance and encouragement of our members and those involved is indispensable. Thank you for your continuous support.
The Japan Elbow Society
Takashi Masatomi, President
